Perry “Coach PJ” Jones was a neighborhood guy, a friend, a family man and a leader in the community. He was a successful business man, owning a small storefront restaurant, part owner in a t-shirt printing company and was the founder of 3rd Degree Athletic Training. He was a man that loved sports and turned his passion for mentoring and coaching young athletes into his life’s mission. With over 20 years of experience and Impacting hundreds of kids from age 7 to 14, Coach PJ found the perfect formula for reaching young boys that otherwise may have fallen through the cracks. He had an effortless way of connecting with them, he inspired them to push beyond their circumstances and taught them to believe in themselves – no limits, no excuses.
His heart was the engine, his passion was the fuel and youth sports was his vehicle.
To encourage and support young athletes by giving gifts that will make a difference in some small way. It is our purpose to reach kids that have a passion to learn, play and grow in organized sports. We will show positive and responsible acts of “gifting” by using the pay it forward methods – acts of kindness promote positive success.
Pass it on…
REACH ONE KID AT A TIME, IMPACT AS MANY AS POSSIBLE!!
The Coach PJ Foundation would like to reach deserving young athletes and help satisfy a need in the form of a small gift to kids that play little league basketball or football but may be facing a financial challenge or hardship. It is not the desire of the organization to uncover personal circumstances or know the details of those circumstances. The “gift” would have monetary value equivalent to or in the form of sports equipment, athletic wear & shoes, miscellaneous accessories, team registration fees and other expenses. The goal is to raise money and gain sponsorship to fund and underwrite the gifts.

Coach PJ passed away on January 7, 2017 leaving a long list of kids that played for him. He not only taught them the game, he taught them life skills. He was their mentor, their coach, at times the disciplinarian and their friend. No matter what it took, he did it all from his heart. Over 20 years of coaching games in the hot sun, cold temperatures, rain, being sick or whatever life threw his way, he always showed up and never missed a game.
Even if he was short a man, he would grab a substitute and play anyway - no excuses..
Coach PJ’s legacy will be carried on by encouraging and supporting young athletes that have a passion to learn, play and grow in organized sports by raising money and giving gifts that will make a difference in some small way.
The kids from the early days are adults now, living productive lives, some with families of their own. Many of the kids stopped playing organized sports after high school, some continued to play in college, some made it to the pro level. For the kids from the more recent years, they are still growing, mastering their talents and pushing forward with the roar of Coach PJ’s voice in their heads “Hustle, Hustle, Hustle!!”
